Note early 3.5 engines used a Steel Gasket (often referred to as Tin type). Later Composite material gaskets can be used instead of the original Tin type but there will be a small reduction in compression ratio since the composite gasket is slightly thicker. This is a trade off against the improved sealing characteristics of the composite type. The compression ratio change is not normally a consideration unless you have, or are building a high performance engine.
